Phil,

You are right in that there are parameters to check and compare from one IP camera recording product to another; the first is what do you need? Recording product, surveillance software or IP video platform.

I find most end users dazzled by the cameras until they realize there is so much more involved. So are those eyes glaze over in awe or confusion or is it astonishment when it does not perform as they were sold it would?

One product or software does not fit all! Before I can present any Unique Selling Points (USPs) I need to know what end user wants and or plans to do. Maybe taking the time to ask that rather than say yes is a USP. For example will a PC base solution work or do I need enterprise class solution.

I find the reason it is hard for customers to choose is because there is too much USP going on within the manufacturers, followed by order taking within the channel partners. No one can be all things to all end users. I see this at every level distributor, integrator and or reseller. And I believe it is because sales people leave the selling to the manufacturers until there is a problem; whether camera manufacturer, software developer, or storage provider.

Phew, so many parameters to check and compare from one IP camera recording product to another.

No wonder the end-users' eyes glaze over.

We need some really convincing Unique Selling Points (USPs) from some of these vendors to make them stand out from the pack.

Otherwise it is soooo hard for the customers to choose .....

Most installed? (the software with the largest installed base)

Most scalable? (one that can grow with the camera and client count)

Most 'open' i.e. the system that can handle the broadest range of cameras?

Most cost-effective? (cheap to buy / cheap to own / no annual licences)

Or, maybe, 'buy with your eyes', the one that actually delivers the best images!?!?!?

Thanks for the response RAA. I appreciate it. I look forward to them announcing their integration with Arecont. I just walked a project again this week that is using IP Configure and it sure is a slick application. I love the thin-client extensibility of it.

Thanks for your comments; you are right in that this was an ipConfigure email and website posting that I posted to my new site designed to support clients, products and services that I represent and or recommend.

Arecont are good cameras and ipConfigure is planning to have drivers integrated with their next release. I have been told the reason for delay; which I have not had chance to confirm, is that being a browser based enterprise application, ipConfigure's ESM 4.0 requires cameras that can stream dual video and Arecont does not. ESM 4.5 or 5.0 will incorporate a streaming server and will enable ESM to support Arecont cameras.

It seems this post is skewed exclusively towards IPConfigure. No harm in that as my site tends to skew almost exclusively towards Arecont Vision HD Megapixel cameras. It's hard to take IP Configure seriously for me though when all of the checklist items above are met by Arecont Vision but IP Configure does not support their cameras. We're talking about a company that was founded by the scientists that patented CMOS technology in the first place. They have already surpassed every other company globally for total Megapixel camera sales, and now they are the first megapixel camera line to offer a full line of H.264 cameras. Add in the fact that they have patented multi-sensor panoramic and surround cameras as well as full D/N functionality without focus shift and it's a no-brainer for our company.

If you are familiar with IP Configure, can you find out why they haven't integrated with Arecont Megapixel? From all that I've read about IP Configure, it's a solid system with great features. But we are an Arecont house so I can't even introduce a new DVR/NVR into our company (<i>we currently use OnSSI for large projects and ExacqVision for small ones</i>) without it first being fully integrated with Arecont.
